Windows ME Update Problems

I am trying to do some updates for my brother. He has got a Gateway running
Windows ME. Anytime I go to Windows Update, it comes up something about an
administrator and wont let me do the updates. Any suggestions on how to fix
the problem so I can get his computer up-to-date?

The fix below has resolved this problem for most Win9x users.

ActiveX controls may not load as expected in Internet Explorer due to
defense in depth changes introduced in cumulative security update 896688
(MS05-052)

The fix detailed in 909889 involving the Registry and OLE32.DLL is available
at

- http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip, and

- http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/kb896688_fix.zip (a small VB app that
checks the 4 values and offers a repair option if any of them are
incorrect).

Reboot after running the fix.
