I am running Windows 7 with a Hauppauge HVR-2250. I am trying to set up MCE
to work with my cable box, but I get the error: Windows Media Center cannot
detect IR control cables.
I don't want to use a MCE remote and I don't want MCE to control the cable
box, I just want to use the cable box's remote. How can I bypass this IR
requirement?

You can't.

Tell MC that you have an antenna and always select channel 3 as the channel
you want to watch. Then connect the cable coax to the tuner card using the
RF coax connection with cable box set to output over channel 3.

Recording TV when the channel needs to be changed by MCE could be an issue.

*Could* be an issue is an understament! In addition, the guide as well as
the metadata within the recordings will be incorrect. In addition, video
quality will suffer due to the additional conversion of the signal into a
VHF encoded signal.
