Windows Media fresh install no sound

Installed windows media player 10 and it looks like it is working... BUT has
no sound ... Window looks normal... equalizer seems to work normally... bars
move when music plays... but no sound. Real player works normally and plays
music and .wav files OK

ANYONE have any ideas??
