Windows Media Player 11 shuts down

I have a problem that when I open media player 11 after about 2min33sec the
program shuts down. At first I thought it was a problem with a song but after
ruling that out I opend media player and let it sit didnt try to play
anything and it did the same thing shut down after 2min33secs. Anyone have
this problem before?

How exactly does it shut down? Does it crash with an error or just quietly
disappear/close itself?

That sounds like an exception, not a crash. Still bad, just different.

Does it do it if you just open up the player and don't do anything, or is it
only when you play content?

I am having the exact same problem. The answer to your latest ? is that the
player closes if you just open it as well as if you play content.

For *you*, are you confirming that it opens and then randomly exits without
any other indication to you any error?

That is correct. It just disappears (closes itself without warning or error
message) after 2 1/2 - 3 minutes of playing. I have uninstalled and
redownloaded the player 2 times but the same thing still happens.

That indicates to me that you have a corrupt file in your library. Reset
the library -

- does WMP then stay alive... longer?

I suspect that when it hits that bogus file again, it may again shut down.
You would likely want to figure out what file might be corrupt, if possible.
Limiting your monitored folders to some folders you know contain good data
would get you working as well.
