Hi !

i have some trouble with windows media player ...
after upgrating windows vista ( not from any previews windows os ) ... and
restarting routine .. my wmp for vista doesnt open ... i tried to restart
and tried to reinstall wmp 11 ... and i cant cos i still have a version of
wmp newer than wmp 11 ... i donnt know the version i have is 11.0.6000.6336
... and the version that wmp 11 give me to install is 11.0.5721.5146 ...
so what i can do when the WINDOWS MEDUA CONFIGURATION MANAGER says : THERE
IS A MORE RECENT VERSION OF WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER (11.0.6000.6336) ALREADY
INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER. iT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO USE AN OLDER VERSION
PACKAGE (11.0.5721.5146) TO INSTALL FILES OR TO REPAIR YOUR CURRENT VERSION
OF THE PLAYER ....

You can't uninstall it, and reinstalling it would require a reinstall of
Vista. You were trying to install the XP version, which isn't Vista
compatible.

If you deleted the Media Player files, you have merely broken your system.
You did not effectively uninstall Media Player - there would be registry
references everywhere still, many of which are not marked in any fashion as
Media Player related since there's no need or purpose to find and delete
them.

As this point you would need to reinstall Vista....

My Windows Media Player 11 on Windows Vista Home Premium operating system
stopped working in the middle on a day more than a week ago, for no reason at
all. I've discovered that if I uninstall one of the Windows automatic Updates
(picked randomly) and reboot, it will work again until I reboot the computer.
Then it doesn't work again. So, then I reinstall that same update I had
uninstalled and let it reboot, and it will work again. At the next reboot, it
won't work -- so I repeat the same procedure back and forth. As I am usually
on the computer all day, I usually only have to either uninstall or reinstall
the update in the morning. So far, the randomly picked updates have been
KB933579 and this morning I tried a different one which is KB935652 and it's
working now. But, if I shut down the computer and reboot, it won't work.
Then, I'll reinstall KB935652 and it will work. I'm getting really tired of
this procedure.

That just changes the file associations and is only really relevant for
Vista 64bit. =\

That's not logical, of course, and indicates that you probably would want to
contact actual product support.
