Windows Media Player & Center

I have a Gateway ML6703 notebook. Recently I put a dvd in to play and media
center says that I haven't loaded one. I have and I can feel it loading but
it is not recognized as having been loaded. It does the same thing for a cd.
I went on line with Gateway and two of their techs took control of my
computer for a long time, and finally told me to send it back and they would
fix it. I was wondering if there was something wrong with the installation
of Windows Vista Premium that I could try to fix at home. It will take about
a month for them to fix the notebook and I can't be without it for that long.
Not only that but I have important info in my laptop I don't want anyone
else to see and I don't want strangers looking into this....if they can
control my pc through the internet, I'm sure they can crack my passwords to
certain information I have and I don't want to take the chance.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.....

I am sure Gateway won't steal your information, if they do, you can file a
lawsuit. But they are the OEM and I am sure they are aware of the
intricacies of their systems and they might be seeing this same issue from
other customers. So I would take advantage of warranty and get it fixed
while you can. What I would do is create another account called Gateway and
set my files to be kept private which Vista automatically does.

I thank you for the quick response, I am inclined to take your advise. I
forgot to mention another reason why I am a little leary of sending my
notebook off. After they took control of my notebook, my touch pad stopped
working occasionally and Windows sent me a message stating that the cause was
unknown, but they shut me down automatically until they came up with a
solution. This started happening the day after my experience with Gateway.

I had not thought of the new Gateway account and I thank you for that info!
