totally glad that I'm up till 4am in the morning and getting this
figured out but I sure would have liked to have found this 8 hours
ago!!!
FYI - (a year and a half later than the original post) The fix listed
by zachd (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891664/en-us) fixed more than
my media player problems. I was also have problems loading music into
winamp and winamp would constantly crash on me. I REALLY hope that his
post will help someone else out if they are having the same problem.
So you all know, I followed the directions and just did steps 3 and 4
on the article listed above and it fixed everything even without a
reboot (chuckle at MS)! Also, incase you are reading this post, I
didn't get any of the errors described in the support article. Media
Player and Winap would just say "...encountered a problem and must shut
down". So even if you don't see your exact error message, you'll
probably still be good.
Best of luck and I really hope this helps someone out because it drove
me frickin' insane...
