What Windows Media Player lacks in Vista comparing with Windows 7?

Hello,
I have an .avi file which plays fine in WMP in Windows 7 but it
only plays audio in WMP in Vista.
Why is that difference?

You probably need the XVID codec for Vista.

Codecs more then likely, I suggest you use VLC and not WMP

Windows 7 has built in support for most MPEG4-based 'AVI codecs'. This
should simplify multimedia playback greatly. =)
