Hi, does anyone know why Im unable to install this update, resulting in the
download I have also lost the ability to use the TV function on the Media
Centre. I have tried to update this around 8 times, the download is fine but
it will not install and keeps giving me this error code.

If anyone can please help I'd be most grateful

Thanks

Alan

I am also getting this error non-stop. I tried many hours worth of blog and
KB article recommendations. To the point where IE starting not responding
well. You would think a freshly installed PC with Media Center 2005 and all
updates would give no problems witht eh automated updates. But typical MS
products, flaws they do not have answers to. Same friggin' thing with my
Xbox.

So here i am with a licensed product, days later manually trying things out.
This issue looks to be real old...years in fact. Why hasn't this been
resolved?

Well, I posted a message to the free Windows Update help providing all logs
a files they requested. If they respond I will post the response and if it
worked.

So here is response one that did nto resolve the issue (but may for someone):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The issue can occur if the updates KB904706 or KB912812, which are related
to the update KB900325, haven't been installed correctly. In order to confirm
this point and resolve the issue, let's refer to the following steps to
remove the updates KB904706 and KB912812 first, and then install the update
KB900325. If the update KB900325 can be installed successfully, then we can
reinstall the updates KB904706 and KB912812.

For your convenience, I have outlined the detailed steps below:

Step 1: Remove the update KB904706 and KB912812

=======================================

1. Click Start, Run, type in appwiz.cpl and press OK.

Note: Be sure to have "Show updates" checked (if Service Pack 2 for XP is
installed).

2. Look for updates KB904706 and KB912812.

3. Please highlight and remove them one by one.

4. Restart Windows as required.

Step 2: Install the Update KB900325

=============================

Please download the update from the following link and save the installation
patch to the Desktop:

Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file to install it.
If it is installed successfully, please proceed to step 3 to reinstall the
updates KB904706 and KB912812 which were removed in Step 1.

Step 3: Reinstall the Security Update KB904706 and KB912812

===============================================

Please download and install the updates from the following links

Security Update for Windows XP (KB904706):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Note: If you have installed Internet Explorer 7.0, we can skip the following
updates which are for Internet Explorer 6. If not, please select the proper
update based on your system version, Windows XP SP1 or SP2.

Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB912812)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2
(KB912812)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

If the update KB900325 still cannot be installed, please help gather the
following information for further investigation. Your efforts are appreciated.

1. Please click "Start", "Run", type: %windir% and then press Enter.

2. Please find and send the "mcsetup.log" file to me

Since Windows Update Free help has no integrity, I continued my search and
testing to get the Rollup2 update installed.

Here is by far the easiest, most stable method...manually:

All is cool now with my PC.
