I have had the same issue today.
Restore the your system to the state before the Update was installed.
start, button, run "rstrui" (without the quotes). If system restore i
not turned off, you'll find a restore point created by the system befor
the update was installed.
Another way is to uninstall the driver and install the one you ha
before.It can be
downloaded from the manufacturer's support site

I installed same update, what a mistake. Not only did my audio not work,
but I could not start control panel from the start menu. Using windows
explorer I was able to get to windows updates, but I could not get to the
uninstall page. I used system restore to correct the problem.

If you have the driver (or installer) that you had audio with before the
update you can
uninstall and reinstall the driver. It may help. Also try to fully shut
down your PC and
start again. If you have had a SigmaTel High Definition Audio codec you
can download a driver from Sony
'Vaio : Support'
