To put it simply, my WMP's ripping is malfunctioning. The details are as the
following.
At some point, when I tried to rip a CD into my hard drive using WMP, it
didn't work properly. The ripping process all looked fine, and WMP didn't pop
up any error signs or such; the ripping process looked completely normal and
was completed. The problem started when I tried to play the ripped music. The
audio files were present in the folder I was looking for, and I tried to play
them. But WMP won't play them, saying this:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
So, I thought it was very strange. I found out later too that when I clicked
the properties of the ripped musics (already ripped, in my hard drive), they
appeared as "0 bytes," meaning that they didn't have any data. I was
dumbfounded. I continually re-attempted ripping but the results were the
same. THe WMAudio files are there but they weren't worth a single byte and
didn't play. THe ripping process itself looked completely normal, taking time
as well as having the CD drive run (contributing to help me believe, along
with the fact that other CD rippers successfully ripped functional audio
files from the CD, that it's not the CD drive's problem).
I thought it might be because of the CD's copy-protection (which I wasn't
sure of), but I figured that the problem was perpetual, meaning that WMP
failed to rip other CDs as well. So, I tried ripping a CD I successfully
ripped in the past using WMP, and this time it didn't rip properly. Even if I
successfully ripped it in the past, this time it was again the 0-byte WMA
files that won't play. So I tried using various formats (MP3, WMA pro,
etc...), but none of them worked (especially any format that was WMA) except
the WAV format. Somehow, if I choose the WAV format the CD's audio files are
successfully ripped and saved on the hard drive as WAV files. But I obviously
like WMA better because WAV files are much larger and take up much more
space.
Could anyone explain what the problem is?
If you need additional information, I'll tell you as much as I can.
I use a Windows XP; it came with the laptop at purchase so I assume it is
legitimate and official; WMP came with it. It is WMP 11, I think... I might
be wrong, actually. It has a dark, blackish skin as default.
Also, when I click on the properties for the audio files still in the CD,
they say somehting like media usage rights are missing... Could this be the
problem? But I ripped a CD successfully before, why won't it work now?
The following are the characteristics and numbers of CDs I tried to rip and
failed due to this problem:
1 audio CD I ripped successfully before but now doesn't rip; I believe it
can be successfully ripped with other CD ripping softwares
1 audio CD I failed to rip with WMP all along; can be ripped with other CD
ripping softwares; one of the 2-disk series, I believe, along with the first
CD (they came together, I think)
1 audio CD I failed to rip with WMP all along; it is a new CD I recently
bought.
Thank you.
