Windows MediaPlayer 9 Run too fast

I run W2000 and use W Media Player 9 with all updates. My problem is that
some mpg-videos makes the player to run too fast and also to stall and
freeze.
The movie runs 2 or 3 times faster than normal and freeze long before end.
The same video runs correct in another PC with same OS and same Player.
Could it be a combination of codecs and PC-type or? Some videos runs
correctly.
Is there any standard codecs I can use to be able to see mpg mpeg and avi
files?
Where do I find correct codecs?

It would not be a codec issue. If anything, it would be a harware issue, or a
virtual driver. Check and see if there are updates for your video card, or if
there is a BIOS update for your motherboard make/model.
