To say that Windows Messenger Live allows you to voice chat with Yahoo! users
is a big pile of steaming youknowhat. It does not work. Period!

So is the problem because of petty grudges with Yahoo! interoperability with
theirs and Microsofts servers or that Microsoft has made it impossible to
make it work.

SIMPLE answers only please!

Greetings,

I realize the marketing is somewhat confusing given the way "voice" is thrown around now as a
feature, but I'm afraid it's limited to text chat only.

The simple answer is that they voice software used by each client is different and at present
not compatible, that's all.

It sure is thrown around alright. I have many friends who try to get me to
switch to Yahoo! and me to Messenger. I am a Microsoft fan for reasons I wont
get into here, but this in another bothersome thing about Microsoft marketing.

If Microsoft were upfront about this fact perhaps more users would migrate
over to Microsoft. But when a user spends a whole afternoon trying to "talk"
( http://get.live.com/messenger/overview ) to their friends with Yahoo! it
tends to really, really burn their buns and create a bad taste in their
mouths. Googling it is pointless. ("Microsoft" and "sucks" are joined at the
hip) So is meandering around Microsofts help areas.

Yahoo! doesn't claim to work with Messenger, so they are up one on the
credibility scale. Hello!

Thanks for the reply!

Hi,

You could always go for a third-party beyond the two for voice communication, like Skype --
then everyone's happy.

To be fair, it doesn't say anything about voice specifically. I guess it all depends what one
thinks "talk" means. Still, you're right the Yahoo marketing does say specifically "IM".
