Windows Messenger Transfers (not live)

I was wondering if it was possible to have file transfers to Windows
messenger from Windows Live Messenger working again, as some of my friends
dont use Windows Live messenger and much prefer the less graphically inclined
Windows Messenger. If they or I try and send any of them files i get the
message "The invitation from/to *contact* to start File Transfer was
automatically declined because *contact* is using and older version of
Windows Live Messenger".
Thanks for any help.

Greetings,

There are no plans to bring it back and once something like this is cut, it's usually gone
for good in Microsoftland. This is basically the first major nail in the coffin for Windows
Messenger so to speak. Voice/video against Windows Messenger is also gone now as well.

Thanks for the help. That is quite a shame though because some of the people
i talk too really dont need all the new features that come with the newer
versions and prefer to stick with Windows Messenger and Windows Live does
have a significant jump in resource dependency and also advertiseing. If
theres no hope for Windows Messenger to live on, what about a cut down or
lite version of Windows Live? With just the basic features of messenger eg
conversations, voice/webcam and file transfers with a basic gui? Would there
be any chance for something like that?

Hi,

Given the possible layoffs happening at Microsoft (and specifically Windows Live), I think
third-party clients will be where people will be going if they don't want to use the real
Messenger client. I very much doubt there will be resources for a "light" client.

Same examples of light-weight third-party clients available today: Miranda-IM, aMSN, Pidgin
[note: I'm sure at least one of these might still be using the old file transfer protocol,
but most shouldn't].
