5.1 is ancient by technology standards.
Download the latest Windows Live Messenger 8:

Thanks for your reply. However our office is using live communication server.
It supports Windows messenger. I do not want to change new desktop to use
different messenger.

Hi Q Nguyen,

You must change your instant messaging client, if you want to run Vista
desktops. There will never be a Windows Messenger for Vista. The Windows
Messenger APIs are no longer supported in Vista; it is an evolutionary
dead-end. See:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms630960.aspx

For consumers and home users, Microsoft's replacement product is Windows
Live Messenger, as Mat suggested. However Windows Live Messenger is not
really the right solution for corporate users running Live Communication
Server.

For these users, the upgrade path from Windows Messenger is to Office
Communicator:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/co...729051033.aspx
Office Communicator 2007 is well-supported on Vista. This is the correct
solution for your scenario.

Hope it helps,

Thank you Andrew,
I think that the Office Communicator 2007 will not compatible with Live
Communication Server 2005 which we are having now. As your link it is also
beta version, isn't it?

I'm not an expert on Live Communications Server. But, I believe you have 2
options:

- use Office Communicator 2005. This runs on Vista. You would want to apply
the 937124 hotfix for Communicator, as it fixes a few minor comptibility
problems:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=937124

- use Office Communicator 2007. The Beta has ended, this is now released
software. It looks like the Office team at Microsoft have been slow to
update their website, it still refers to the beta in a few places.
Communicator 2007 is fully compatible with Vista.

I am pretty sure Office Communicator 2007 can be used as a client to Live
Server 2005; although not all the new 2007 features will be available. You
can also run Live Communications Server 2005 and Office Communications
Server 2007 side-by-side in the same enterprise. You might need to check
with Microsoft, or ask in a Live Communication Server forum, about specific
compatibility details of running 2007 Clients against 2005 Servers. But I
think it will basically work.

Probably Office Communicator 2005 with hotfixes, will be the easiest
solution.
