Windows / Microsoft Update Farce

I've had about every windows update error imaginable in the last 2 months.

I've complained directly to Microsoft about the problems associated with
general update errors, but in particular the abject failure of updates to
function effectively across MSHOME networks connected through 1 way Satellite
broadband connections.

It took 2 weeks for Microsoft to reply to me, and despite already furnishing
this and much more in depth information the only thing MS could ask me was
"Is your software genuine?" - since then I've heard no more. Great!

Yes. Its genuine, its registered, and it worked perfectly well until some
muppet update team decided to start scanning PC's using elaborate multi-port
sniffing techiniques to detect presumably if my pc is genuinely trying to
update or is in fact some kind of Black Hat attack on the update servers.

So the real story seems to be I'm having to spend hours updating gigabytes
of patches to stay secure, to defend against hackers.

But now I cant update becase MS have ammended Windows Update services to
protect themselves against hackers.

Someone's sure to have been given a promotion and 1000's of free shares in
Microsoft for coming up with this farcical catch 22.

<Devil's advocate> Then why, do you suppose, Windows/Microsoft Update is
working fine for millions of others if the problem's on their end?

Yes. But look at it from this particular perspective...The
world is, indeed, perfectly fine to the millions who do not
have any problems or issues under the changes resulting in
WU/WGA but what about for the remaining people where it is
**not** working fine. What was not broken did not need to be
fixed in the first place and if Microsoft cannot get a handle
on how to make and sell a product free of defect and bugs, via
a fair and equitable distribution system and provide a means
by which it honors its warranties and guarantees, then it must
bear its own cross and not transfer the burden to those end
users who have paid for and hold legitimate licenses, and for
whom there has been no satisfactory resolution, yet.

I suspect that as stated the "millions" of other users are not having to
update via 1 way satellite broadband.

The injustice is that I require a broadband connection to download the
enormous updates, but the updates only work if you take each PC OFF the LAN
and DIAL UP DIRECTLY WITHOUT SATELLITE DOWNLINK ENABLED.

That sucks.

You have my empathy. I know of many others who connect via satellite and
have the same problems (and not only with Windows Update).
