I need to make Outlook 2000 my default email in order to use Windows Mobile
Device Center. However, it seems impossible. Not only is this not an
option, but every time I restart my computer I have to re-install Outlook. I
did the wab thing. Not sure what that fixed though. I'd really appreciate
any help...

Thanks,
Gina

Hmm, the thing is, Outlook 2000 is not certified for Windows Vista and it is
well known to have problems running on Windows Vista. My recommendation
would be to upgrade to a later release of the product such as Office Outlook
2003 (SP3) or Office Outlook 2007.

I had a feeling that was going to be the answer, just not the answer I was
hoping for. Thanks though. I appreciate your help.

I encountered the problem with my windows mobile 6.1 when I could no
sync my phone with Windows 7 x64bit. I have Microsoft office 2000 SP
installed in my windows 7. My windows mobile device center recognise
my phone with no connection problem but the calendar, contacts and emai
option always greyout with the remarked "Outlook has not been installed
and can't change any sycn settings.

Having searched thru the net, I found some solution with my ow
modification. This solution also works for Windows Vista with Offic
2000 intalled.

Firstly, make a global search on drive C to locate any file with th
name mapi32.dll, you may find them in C:/Windows/systems32 an
c:/Windows/SysWow64.

Secondly, rename all mapi32.dll to mapi32.old. If you are not allowe
to rename the files, you have to take ownership of the files befor
renaming (search the net for procedure how to take ownership of
file).

Thirdly, browse your original MS 2000 cd and obtain a copy of th
mapi32.dll file and copy into the folders containing the renamed file.

Thereafter, you would be able to sync your phone with WMDC and outloo
2000 and the calendar, contacts and email cync options would b
available. I am able to sync with two different computers (maximum).

Good luck
