Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 refuses sync of contacts

For several years I have used WMDC 6 to sync my Outlook 2007 data (emails,
contacts, diary, files) onto my Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5.0. My PC
runs Vista 32 Ultimate. But the Outlook files were in the 97-2002 format
because they were inherited from an old PC.
Recently to solve other problems I created new pst files for Outlook in the
current format -- following advice I copied the old folders I wanted to keep
using into the new pst file. It all runs fine in Outlook.
But I have real issues getting the sync to my Pocket PC using the new pst
file. I have installed WMDC 6.1 to my PC and a MS update for the Pocket PC
meant to make Office 2007 files work.
I have also run Office Diagnostics which showed do problems and have run the
SCANPST tool which showed only minor problems which made no difference after
fixing.
So far I can get everything except my contacts to sync -- on that I am
totally stuck.
Has someone got a route to getting my contacts to sync? Big thanks if you
can.

I appear to have fixed this by deleting the partnership on both PC and Packet
PC (disconnected) and then reconnecting. But will post again cos there's a
new and wierd problem.
