Windows Mobile Device Center Syncing problem with Outlook 2007 & V

Good afternoon,

I'm still in the phase of testing Windows Vista in conjunction with Office
2007 and I must say I like the new look and feel. But unfortunately one of
the most important functions in a business environment (certainly with VIP
and CEO people) is the synchronization between their laptop and PDA. And to
be honest, that’s a nightmare up until now.

I know the software is still in a beta phase (this should not be the case
since Vista has been release for business since November), but it simply
does not work on a clean Vista Ultimate / Office 2007 Ultimate combination in
conjunction with a HTC TyTn PDA.

I've got the contacts synchronized, but everything else fails. Sometimes I
get an error message with no info, sometimes I see no messages at all, other
times the synchronization keeps on going and going ...

On the Internet there is not much specific help to be found, so I hope
someone here can help me out.

I also tested the eWallet software afterwards and I must say, this uses a
very easy install and synchronizes like a charm. I really wish the Outlook
data would work as fast and hassle-free.

Kind regards,
Benny

This was the post I submitted to the Private Partner Site, but unfortunately
it was the wrong place to do so. I do got some nice tips and hints from Lee
Li and got searching on this page :
http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archi...ce-center.aspx

I deleted the partnership and tried again using the tips on this page. It
seemed to work a lot better, but when trying to sync the calendar it blocks
again. If you are very fast or lucky you can see the following message in
Sync Center : “Attention required% The following appointments failed to
synchronize...”

The problem is that you never get to see more info on this error. Searching
the Internet I’ve found numerous entries on this topic, but none relating to
the Vista/2007 combination. Also they mention problems with notes attached to
items like a appointment. No real solutions however.

It’s impossible to simply delete all my appointments and recurring tasks …

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,
Benny

WMDC has been out of beta for a day or so I believe. I certainly
installed the non-beta yesterday.

Windows Mobile Device Center V6 RTM is available for download at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx. It should be
available via Windows Update very shortly, probably within the day.

Thanks for the tip. I was so busy searching that I didn't see the new release.

After the de-install and re-install, the sync worked a lot better. It
actually completed the sync. I did still have an error message, but now there
was some comment in the error message that wasn't there before. A big
improvement if you want to troubleshoot! Here is the message :

The following appointments failed to synchronize from the desktop:
1. Subject: Lunch
Time: 2/01/07 12:00
Duration: 30 minutes
There is not enough free memory on your device to synchronize information.
Close programs that are running to free up memory

There are a few problems with this message though. First of all, I deleted
this appointment and a few others that had been generating these messages.
For the others the error message dissapeared with a second sync. For this
appointment, I keep receiving the error although NO such an appointment
excist on my Laptop and on the PDA. So it's hard to delete it ;-)
Secondly, I checked the memory on the PDA and the laptops and no problems in
that area either. So the error seems a bit strange.

Should there be any other tips or trics I can use ... please feel free to
share them.

Thanks,
Benny

I'm using Windows Vista X64 ultimate, and the WMDC (Final version for X64)
and there's a pretty big problem with it in regards to the HTC TYTN (also
know as Cingular 8525)..

1) It seems to detect the HTC TYTN as a Remote NDIS Device - nevertheless,
the Windows Mobile Device Center still doesn't see the device..

2) As soon as I plug my TYTN, it seems to cause Vista X64 fits - basically,
if I try to do a "Scan for Hardware Changes" after plugging the device in -
the "Scanning for Plug and Play Devices" prompt never goes away, it seems to
be waiting for something to finish

Control Panel -> Device Manager ->Right Click on Root Node (Machine Name) ->
"Scan For Hardware Changes"

3) If I do #2, my machine won't shutdown properly, as if the shutdown
process is waiting for something to finish, have to hit the reset button.

No problems at all with Windows XP and ActiveSync 4.2 (aside from not being
able to copy big media files with WMP11 which seems to be a common issue).

Anybody else running into this problem?
