Windows Mobile Device Center won't sync to iPaq 2495

Even after getting Vista, I was able to sync to my iPaq 2495. One day, no
longer possible. My wife may have mistakenly changed something on the
computer to lead to this but I can't determine what. I have deleting and
reinstalling Mobile Device Center and downloaded version 6.1, precisely
following the instructions. I did it with all
antivirus/antispam/firewall/etc. turned off. I have deleted the device and
sync relationsships from Device Center numerous times and rebooted more times
than I can count. Basically, I think I've tried everything I've seen others
post.

An interesting thing I noticed: I have personal data stored as Notes in
both Outlook and the iPaq. When I try to sync, even when it fails certain
Notes copy themselves on the iPaq. Don't know what this has to do with the
ongoing failure to sync, but it's a new wrinkle that showed at the same time
the inability to sync started.

My problem was with a iPaq 4155 that I've had for years, was syncin
with WMDC on Vistax64 fine, then just stopped. I tried just abou
everything (restore, hard resets, all the web help TS guides), then
simple manually updated the drive in device manager and choose a olde
driver. Auto Update kept pushing me to a HP USB Sync 1651 (wouldn't eve
install correctly), I finally settled on HP USB Sync 1631, works fin
now! I hid the Auto Update request that pops up when I plug my iPaq i
until I'm sure the new updated driver is actually going to work
