Windows Mobile Messenger "problem with the server"

Hi,

I have been having a lot of trouble recently with Windows Live for Windows
Mobile. I am unable to sign into messenger because of an error message "There
is a problem with the server".

After a long and ultimately fruitless email discussion with Windows Live
Support, they eventually suggested that I upgrade to the latest Windows Live
for Windows Mobile which does not include Messenger. Clearly this is a
ridiculous suggestion.

I created a new Windows Live account and migrated all my contacts, and this
new account worked for a few days on mobile Messenger before starting to
display the same error on login.

I have a feeling that the error may be related to Messenger Beta's multiple
places feature, because when I attempt (unsuccessfully) to sign in on my
mobile, I am signed out of Messenger Beta on the desktop with the message
"you have signed into messenger on too many other computers".

Please if anyone can offer any advice I would be most grateful. Mobile
Messenger is one of the main reasons I spend the extra to buy premium Windows
Mobile devices, and this problem is extremely frustrating.

Many thanks,

Matt Sharpe

i have the very same problem. got my first windows mobile phone, really
thrilled by live contacts and email sync, but messenger never worked.
probably has to do with me using live messenger 9 beta which probably
changed something in my account...
i just managed to login to my secondary live ccount which i basically dont
use, and that one works. probably cause i never logged in to live messenger
9 with that one...
anyone knows how to circumvent this problem?
is there any update for live messenger on windows mobile? i can only find a
download for an app without messenger...

Hi I hope this is usefull for everyone It is a known problem and Microsoft is
working on it.

In the meantime, I have formulated a workaround for this problem. Please
follow the steps below:

1. Login to Windows Live Hotmail account, and go to "Options" on the top
right corner.
2. Under "Customize your contacts", click "Export contacts."
This action will allow you to save WLMContacts.csv file (save it on desktop).
3. After saving the csv file successfully go to Contact list and select all
and delete all the contacts.
4. Once all the contacts are deleted log in to Windows Live Messenger for
Mobile and syncing the contacts.
5. When synced successfully. Go back to "Options" in Hotmail and under
"Customize your contacts" click "Import contacts."
This will give you options to import contacts from various sources, selects
"Choose the file to import" and select the saved WLMContacts.csv file on the
desktop.
6. Once imported successfully, try to sync Windows Live Messenger for Mobile
this should go fine.

Seti58,

Thanks for your reply. This is the same procedure suggested by Microsoft's
Customer Services. Unfortunately it does not work for me.

Regards,

Matt

I have a similar problem, although I haven't tried to login to messenger I
can't sync my contacts from live to my mobile.

I have a HTC Touch HD with a Swedish version of Windows Mobile and Windows
Live. When I do a sync everything except my contacts get synced. It's says
"Kontakter: Ett serverproblem har uppstod.".

I'm running the beta version of messenger so that might be the cause.

I'll try this workaround and see if it help.
