Windows Movie Maker Preview not working

Got a HP laptop and have used Movie Maker several times. It locked up and
errored out once and now when I try to play a movie I made or add a wmv file
and play it the preview screen is black, it will not play the movie. It looks
like it is as in the pause marks turn to the play arrow but nothing happens.
Any help?
