Here is a copy of the message i get when i try to install updates.

The following updates failed to be installed successfully:

816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374)

Error: There is not enough disk space to install the update(s). Free
additional space on your hard disk and then try again.

As for the free space on my computer i have a 80 gig hard drive with 512meg
ram, used space is 8.79 gig, this leaves 74.5 gig free, so how can i not have
enough free space to install these updates?

regards

Garry

It's probably an unexpected error code being misinterpreted
by the install program.

Try doing the updates one at a time. Perhaps the problem
is only associated with one of them.

Use the logs to get more clues.

Also, unless your objective is to do the updates via WU only
you should also try doing them one at a time manually.
E.g. just use WU as an indicator of what updates you need to get
and don't worry about the fact that it sometimes can't do it for you.
