Similar to, may even be the same problem as, others listed on the "after Feb
14 updates..."

I have a 4 month old Dell Inspiron 640m. Been having minor to intermediate
System 32 problems since I recieved it (ie. error messages, freezing up...)
but nothing that stopped the machine totally, seem to be able to stay ahead
of it.

Anyways, upon start-up on Feb 13, I got the problem boot page.
Tried "normal start..." and after what looked like a normal boot, the
Windows XP page turned to a black screen.
Restarted, tried "Last Known Config...." and same happened, started as a
normal boot but intead of my desktop, just a black screen.
Restarted, tried "Safe Mode" and got a list of
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\SYSTE M32\Drivers\...."
ending in
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\Syste m32\Drivers\Mup.sys"
and it freezes there.
Tried using the installation disk in the "Recovery..." but not sure where to
go from there, the problem seemed to just appear in an instant.

I have the full Dell support but I am presently out of the country, in lets
say, an under-developed country, won't be back in Canada for a few more weeks.

Does anyone have a definite solution? is there a file or driver I can delete
in the "Recovery Console"??? or do I have to wait and suffer until I can get
Dell to hopefully help in a few weeks!

Thank-you.

I have noticed similar problems on 2 PC’s and possibly a third.

The first PC involved had Norton Internet Security 2007 loaded from December
and ran very stable until an upgrade for Webroot Spysweeper version 5.3.1.234
came out on 2/15/07. Within a few days after loading new Spysweeper the PC
died with a black screen. Unable to boot in safe mode. Ended up reloading
Windows XP and all other software. Windows updates were all turned off
thinking it was a Windows update error.
Norton 2007 and spysweeper were reloaded onto PC and within a few days it
crashed again. Tried same combination once again a system died within 1
hour. The final time Spysweeper was left off and system was very stable.

My PC I had that latest spysweeper loaded and was running great under Norton
Internet Security 2006. Subscription ran out so I loaded the 2007 version.
On 3 different occasions within a 48 hour period my PC was a vegetable and
had to be restored. The last time I removed spysweeper from PC then loaded
Norton Internet Security 2007 and system has been running great now.

Just today another PC had crashed. This 1 had Norton 2007 loaded for a few
weeks and not sure which version of spysweeper was loaded. This PC is
currently being reloaded with windows and program software.

Being on the safe side a system is on its last day for subscription of
Norton Internet Security for 2006 and is running spysweeper version 5.3..
just fine. As a precaution we are removing spysweeper before loading the
2007 version of Norton Internet Security.

Just do a google search for webroot problems and you will see there are some
posts out there complaining about latest version of spysweeper.

I’m not sure if it’s a problem with Webroot or Norton but it might be good
to see if you may have conflicting software on your PC.
