I am trying to update my realplayer and once the download is complete a setup
error box pops up. It says:

As a restricted user you do not have adequate windows operating system
rights to use this program to install software. Please contact your system
administrator for help.

Can someone please explain this to me?

Can be several reasons - evidently you are using a "standard user" account -
default action in such cases is for UAC to provide a prompt asking for
permission to continue and/or an Administrator's password.

Sounds like you have UAC disasbled.

You are not the Administrator of your Operating System.........you are
configured as a User...........a User has less rights than a
Administrator.....one of them is the inability to install programs willy
nilly.
Go to Control Panel....User accounts..........and check to see if you are
just a User.....

I am just a user, I know because I set myself up that way. But When
try to run the real player installer/executable as an administrato
(right click, run administrator), I still get this same error message
