Windows Photo Gallery has stopped responding

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit Dimension DXP 061 - The Windows Photo
Gallery has stopped responding. First I knew of it was when my screen saver
photos did not work and I received error message "An error is preventing the
slide show from playing." I have attempted to open Windows Photo Gallery and
all I get is a small icon in the top left corner. When I shut down my
computer it shows Windows Photo Gallery is running; however there is no way I
can figure how to get to the program or open it.
