Windows Photo Gallery runtime error

I am using Vista Ultimate edition and recently when I open Windows Photo
Gallery(WPG) after a short period of time I am greeted with an error message.
The message refers to a runtime library error from Visual C++. I've tried
deleting the hidden library files located in my application data folder,
thinking that I messed something up somewhere along the line. That seemed to
work, as it took a little longer for the error to appear but voila... it did.
I have Roxio Creator 9 installed and wondered if it had anything to do with
that but can't find any info about it anywhere. If I open a photo from
Explorer with WPG everything is fine. The problem occurs after opening WPG
from the start menu. Anyone got any ideas? Other than this minor annoyance, I
really like Vista!

Have you checked Event Viewer under Administrative Tools in Control Panel?
Such errors listed there might reference an application. Since this has
happened more than once, check additional errors as some may contain a
reference others don't.
The errors often include an ID and source code that may be useful in
diagnosis. Any number of applications might be the source so checking the
above may be useful.

If this is a relatively recent issue, you might try using System Restore to
take you back to a time prior to when this began. System Restore is meant
to restore your system settings and registry to a specific point in time
only but you should always your data well backed up. Also, if you can
pinpoint roughly when this began, you may remember something you did,
install, removed, etc. that might have been what triggered this and you may
see a reference to that item in the above mentioned error messages.

As a matter of fact I have checked for unusal activity in the Event Viewer,
but I am unable to pinpoint the "offending" application. On another note, I
just read in my VISTA: INSIDE and OUT book that WPG shares a database with
Movie Maker. Later this evening, I will delete the database for Movie Maker,
as I don't have much invested in it, then see if that resolves the situation.

receive some thoughts and solution possibilities. I'll post any updates when

Okay... it seems I have found the problem. Within my VIDEOS section of my
user folder I had some MP2 files that were imported from XP. These files were
created for an old movie file I made using Screenblast. I moved the folder to
a completely different drive and then opened WPG and all is great!

By the way, merely exposing the same files within Explorer causes Explorer
to crash. These files aren't necessary to me any longer so I will delete
them, but apparently, Vista doesn't like MP2 files at all.

I hope this helps others with the same problem, and thank you, Michael. If
anyone has anything to add, feel free to do so.

Interesting. Had you posted back with no luck regarding the database, I was
going to respond that sometimes an issue such as this can occur when there
are problems or corruptions with some files in the folder and I was going to
recommend you segregate out files of various types or possibly made or
created in some other application and see if that resolves the issue!:-)
