Hi there,

Your guestion is a little unclear in the way which operating system you are
using?

I assume it is windows XP if so: start with disabeling automaticly restart
under sytem faillure, this is to be found under: right click my computer
than choosing properties, than the tab advanced, than startup and recovery
settings tab.

Now try to update again and see if you get a blue screen with an error code,
write it down if it comes and report it here. Good chance someone can help
you fix the problem.

Best regards,

Michel Denie

Also Select, Start, Help and Support, Keep your Windows up- to-date
with
Windows Update, Review your Update History and click on the Failed
Icon in the Status Column. What does it say?

What are your snti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

Hope this helps.

Sry about the way the question was stated. You were correct in your
assumption that I am using windows xp. I took your advice and here was the
error message i recieved.

Stop: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0xF314B3D7, 0xF1A33A20, 0x00000000)
System32: lzx32.sys - address F314B3D7 base at F3149000
datestamp 458c2c44

Now I don't have any idea what this means so if anyone could help me out on
this one that would be great.

The system is infected with malware that has rookit tendencies-
Troj/RKRustock-A
http://www.symantec.com/security_res...305-99&tabid=2
and
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/anal...rkrustoka.html

Strongly suggest you either bring the system to a reputable computer
repair technician or to a *very* knowledgeable friend for assistance.
If you can not do either, then post to a reputable anti-malware forum
for assistance :

An internet search for lzx32.sys brings many results confirming Mow's
diagnosis. I defer to Mow's judgement on how to gain assistance with
removal. The problem with this type of infestation is that it opens
the door to many other nasties. You need this advice to help not only
to remove what is so far identified but also to find and remove the
other uninvited guests.
