Windows REFORMATTING

If I am completly ready to reformat my system but do not have the Windows XP
cd, but have everything else (including MY product key), could i use a
friends cd and install with my key properly?

Yes, as long as your friends CD is identical to yours.
There are many different types and they are not interchangeable.
OEM/ retail/Volume License Full/Upgrade and more.
