Windows Registry

I recently had a problem with my computer and brought it to a shop to fix it.
They told me they were able to get it running but there is a problem with my
Windows Registry. They said if I continued to have problems they would have
to take everything out and reinstall it all. Does anyone know what this
Windows Registry is? Is it something I can fix on my own? I am still having
some problems but am trying to avoid paying another $150 or more to have them
do it.

Editing the windows registry is not something a non skilled user should
preform, editing the registry wrongly will end up in a non usable operating
system. If you persist in editing I recomand you back the registry up before
doing so

I suggest instead you repair your windwos installation while booting from
the windows xp CD after F8 for agreeing on the license press R for
repairing, you will keep all your files and programs but will have to update
your windows again however.

Obviously not.

Please feel free to ask back in a newsgroup which deals with the Windows
version you're using. Your problem doesn't seem to be related to Windows
Updates anyhow.
