Windows Security Alerts Running

Is there anyway to close the Security Alerts Icon in the system
tray? I know my firewall is running and Windows XP Firewall is
off, I know my anti-virus program is running and I know I have
Auto Updates turned off. The icon stays in my tray and everytime
I reboot it warns me as to how dangerous it is for me to not have
Auto Updates turned ON.

When I turn it on, even if I have it set to just warn me and not
download or install, it checks about every 15 minutes for updates
and interrupts my processes by using bandwidth and resources and
it's annoying.

Thanks for any help!
Tim

Hi Tim,

You could try disabling the Security Center service and see if that solves
the problem:
Go to Start>Run and key in services.msc then click on OK or hit ENTER
Locate Security Center in the list of services, double-click on it, use the
drop-down picklist to set the Startup type to Disabled, then click on Apply
then OK.
See if the problem disappears after you reboot.

Regards,
