This is a great question, and I will research it. In the meantime, though,
you can verify somewhat independently that you are "fully patched." You can
download and run the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer on Windows 2000,
Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Here is the link:

Simply download it, open it, read and agree to the License Agreement, then
scan your computer. It can scan a single computer, a subnet, or more. The
default settings will allow it to scan your own machine. If you focus on
the Windows Update portions, you can independently verify that you are fully
patched using a different scanner than Windows Update.
