Hi,
I'm playing around here with the Windows Server 2008 DFS and have some
issues which I did not have running Windows Server 2003 DFS.
Basically I have one DFS Namespace (server only - non domain). I have two
targets defined, however when I open the namespace only the content of one
of my targets it shown. What could be the reason?
Example:
Namespace = DATA
Target1 = \\Server\Data1
Target2 = \\Server\Data2
Should I now be able to see the contents of both Data1 and Data2 or should I
see both individual targets when I open the namespace \\Server\Data? I
believe under 2003 I saw the content but on 2008 I see the names of both
targets and have to 'open' each of them individually to access the files.
Is this the correct behaviour?
Thanks,
Pascal

Hi,

When you access any DFS Folder like \\server\data it will provide you a
referel of one of the Target Folder mentioned for it... so it will be a data
from one server only... but you can use RG (Replication Groups) to replicate
the Folder Data between more than one servers.

Therefore you need to configure Replication between two folders as mentioned
\\Server\Data1 and \\Server1\Data1 to get same data always in both folders.

Here i talked about Two Folders sitting on two different Servers (not sure
about your question when you say \\server\Data1 and \\server\data2, do you
mean two folders on same Server?)

You can find good DFSR (Mostly same concepts for 2k3 R2 and 2k8) information
at below mentioned links:

Namespaces Overvie
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...b5bb51033.mspx

DFS Replication Overvie

I hope this may help.
