Windows Server 2008 R2 Network Browsing

We have installed a new Windows Server 2008 R2. It is also running Terminal
Services.

When we try to browse computers on the network, it only displays tsclient
but no workstations are displayed.

Your help is appreciated.

Hi Guido,

you need to enable Network Discovery which is per default disabled (network
and sharing center -> change advanced sharing settings -> "Your network"
.... ).

In addition to the other reply - this is something I'd suggest you lock down
& prevent, amongst many other things. It's very easy for a TS box to get in
trouble if the user environment isn't pretty strictly controlled. There
should be no need to browse the network for most users.

Sorry about the delay. Iwas away.

The Server is a domain controllers and the workstations are members of the
domain.

I managed to turn on network discovery by starting some services that are
required.

However, when I click on the Network setting I can only see the Server.

When I browse the network from the workstations, I can see the list of all
workstations but not the Server.

What OS is running in the other machines? Network discovery works with
Vista/Win 7. If you have legacy systems older than that you need to use the
computer browser service, which relies on Netbios over TCP/IP and LAN
broadcasts (or WINS). Both Netbios over TCP/IP and the computer browser
service may need to be enabled.
