windows shuts down unexpectedly

Windows shuts down unexpectedly. Is there a way to pinpoint the cause based
on the logs and errors that Vista produces? I have read at least a half
dozen reasons suggested for this type of occurrence in general and wonder if
there is information being captured by the system that can help pinpoint the
cause for my specific case.

Problem Reports and Solutons / View Problem HIstory shows 11 instances of
this, 7 today at approximately 1/2 hour intervals and one 5 days ago, one 6
days ago and two 7 days ago. It says : Windows / Shut Down Unexpectedly /
(date & time) Solution Available. However whenever connected to Microsoft
site it never comes back with any solution.

I also have this problem i tend to leave my computer in hibernation and it
happens. Its allways a blue screen asking to start windows in safe mode etc..
and saying if this isnt the first time you've seen this screen contact
something or other. I've had it happen several times now. I was wondering if
it is the windows vista? I was told by a friend that windows vista has a
bunch of problems and I should go back to windows xp. Any suggestions? sry

I had posted this at another spot also and have had some suggestions which I
am pursuing. However at this point I can't say I have isolated it to one
specific reason. Whether it has to do with the system fan and if running too
hot and shutting down to protect data, or problem with power source, or
problem going to sleep, or something to do with the bios and if don't have
the latest version of that, or if Windows Vista, or combination of reasons.
Seems to happen randomly so can't say for sure what the cause is but some
others in this community have provided some likely suggestions which I am
looking into. Sorry I can't provide you with a more specific answer myself at
this point.

Hibernation feature does not work after Installation of Vista SP1. When
attempting to resume from hibernation you recieve the following error
message: "'System'
(http://www.ehow.com/how_2326254_func...allation.html#)
was shutdown unexpectedly" This issue occurs when the Boot Configuration
Data (BCD) store contains incorrect information for the "Resume from
Hibernate" entry.

Follow steps To fix BCD information:

Step1
1 Click Start>All programs>'Accessories'

right click Command Prompt>Run as Administrator

Step2
At Command prompt type:

bcdedit -enum all
Step3 3
locate following entry.(this is what you will copy in the following
steps)

Resume from Hibernate
---------------------
identifier {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
Step4 4
{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

note- the x's above will be replaces letters or numbers on your
identifier string.
Step5 5
Use your 'mouse'

pointer and place it over the identifier string, right click, and select
Mark, highlight the entire indentifier string and then hit Enter.

(this enables you to drag your pointer over the string and copy it.
Important! To copy highlighted string you must hit Enter key! otherwise
you will have to repeat process and mark string again)
Step6 6
At flashing cursor on Command Prompt type the following:

bcdedit /deletevalue
Step7 7
Hit the space bar then right click and paste indentifier string.
shoud look like this:

bcdedit /deletevalue {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
Step8 8
Hit the space bar again, and type inherit. Should look like this:

bcdedit /deletevalue {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
inherit
Step9 9
Press enter. If done correctly (with proper spacing) a sucessful
message will be displayed at Command Prompt.

Type exit and press enter to close command Prompt. Hibernation should
function properly.

After reading all the testimonials, I just figured I should throw in my
two cents.

I recently installed windows 7 64 bit with no problem and received the
same error as seen in the picture below.

I never had this error until I plugged in this USB 4 port usb 2.0 high
speed hub by Gigaware

i have had it running and been crashing. Removed it and no crashes
since. I think the error is related to heating issues. Just thought
someone wanted to know!
