Windows Special "Music/Video" Folder No Longer Works

That is, whenever I click "play all" from a folder designed for music/videos
(i.e., My Videos/My Movies), the cusor quickly changes and does not carry out
the command--to play all of the enclosed files in Windows Media Player 10.

In addition, whenever I close the program, it continues to hang in the
background, forcing me to then close it manually (task/end process).

And yes, i've un/re-installed WMP 10, to no avail.

Would anyone know how to fix this PC annoyance, sans a system format?

W.
