Windows Upadates fail to load

After searching for Updates and then selecting the desired update my computer
fails to load the updates. I was getting an error message [Error number:
0x800A1391] and have done what they suggested.

I have tried using a different Browser Maxthon and I get to see what updates
are available but it then fails to download and install the selected updates.

I have tried to download with Z/Alarm switched off as was suggested in
another site without success.

Is there anywhere where I can download the auto update program on its own? I
was thinking that a reinstall might help?

An answer would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance for any help.

Check Windows Update Log for Errors. Scroll to the bottom for most recent
updates.
C:\Windows\Windows Update.log

Is this the solution you have already tried?
You receive an "Initialization error 0x800A1391" error message and the
Windows Update Web site does not appear

The stage thing is that there is no error codes in the log even though I get
"Initialization error 0x800A1391" in W/Explorer when starting the search.

If I search in Maxthon I am able to search and find the update downloads. I
then select to download & install and nothing happens. The log shows 4 found
and no error message for not downloading.

The annoying thing is Maxthon browser will find the updates but I am unable
to download and install as one has in the past Explorer 7 will not even find
the updates.

The Log shows Maxthons finds but there is no error message to say why the
process is not completed.

The log does not show Explorer 7 fail to start or leave an error message.

You might only find that in other logs and it might only appear there
as the equivalent decimal value for that code as:
- the last half e.g. 0x1391 == 5009
- a signed doubleword e.g. 0x800A1391 == -2146823279
- an unsigned qword e.g. 0x800A1391 == 2148144017

Tip: your Calculator in the Accessories folder is handy for doing these conversions.
(Or just press the Calculator button on an MS keyboard if you have one.)

What happens if you use IE instead? BTW you haven't disclosed any
version information about either your OS or your IE.

> The log shows 4 found and no error message for not downloading.

Are you sure you went back far enough?
E.g. notice the "RESUMED"? I would have expected to see
something before that about the thing being resumed...
Perhaps that is where you could find some clues about the
4 updates which were found and whether a problem occurred
when trying to download them? Also, perhaps it would be necessary
to activate verbose logging to see them? (Ref. KB902093)
However, I prefer using ProcMon to supplement the log messages
as I think it provides clearer clues about what occurred before the
message was written and hence what it may mean.

Win XP Pro SP2 undated only 1 needs reinstall according to Belarc Advisor
search yesterday. IE recently updated to 7 and it needs updates and it is
here that I found my manual update program fails. I normally use Maxthon
Browser and only updated because windows updates came through on an auto
update in the monthly group for my computer.

>Are you sure you went back far enough?

The piece of the log I pasted was a search /update completed on Maxthon
Browser it shows the start to finish. If I use IE7 I don't get a recording in
the log and the error number appears on the screen.

I know very little about searching computers in other searches and only
became familar with search as I had a problem not unlike but unfortunately
not the same September last year.

I now have a recent error showing on log which happened during a restart
after deleting a couple of recent programs which were added and may have
helped cause my problems.

My gut feeling is Explorer 7 is some how the problem. The problem is how do
I find the date when I installed E7 or if installing E7 up dates are the
problem. If I knew the dates I would do a re-install with a date prior?

Fixed ???? I think Explorer 7 is the culprit. Have re-installed after
complete un-instal. It was very slow to load. It wasn't until I had a
complete reinstal that it worked to allow manual updates. Repair tries did
not work.

I now have another problem in that E7 has slowed my computer and it is
leaving a problem on closing. It has to close automatically but now needs a
button push.
"Access violation at address 02050200 in module iesdsg.dll Read of address
25202E67"

Some research has shown it to be Spyware Doctor. I am yet to confirm this.
