windows update for 2000

having problems updating win 2000 can get through to the update page but when
it tries to detect software version and updates already incorporated the ie
home page changes from wanadoo to about:blank and loses the microsoft page.
software loaded inc. win 2000 and norton antivirus and utilities, with
spyblock 2.0 anti spam.
where am i going wrong as i cannot get rid of it.
