windows update 3.1 for xp

i keep getting windows update 'failed to install' error code 0x80070426 is
this an important update? can anyone help please thanks alot

Make sure the Automatic Update Services has been started.
Make sure that BITS is started.

I have automatic updades started and when I tried to install SP3 it went for
a while and then asked me to install my XP disc. My XP software has two
discs. Which one should I insert?

PS: That's *Office* (2003?) SP3, not Windows XP SP3. Insert your Office CD.
