Windows Update may contain third-party software but getting
current driver files and patches directly from the websites
of their origin is much more preferred.

Thanks for your reply.
Currently we are thinking of going through the windows update mechanism for
our patches.
Is there a reason why the same is not much preferred? Also, who should we
contact if we decide to take this approach.

There is nothing wrong going through Windows Update for
3rd-party driver support. However, one still needs to know
the newness of the version that is present in the Windows
Update site or whether or not it is a beta (or test) version
as well as the presence of the supporting documentation that
describes the rationale for the update or the patches that
were written. IOW, this information is always obtainable from
the original vendor's website. It is the vendor who writes the
driver updates and patches first...not Microsoft.
