Windows Update 80072efd Error Solution

I worked with Microsoft Tech Support and after trying several things,
the one that worked was to rename the Windows\SoftwareDistribution
folder as OLDSoftwareDistribution and let Windows Update generate a
new one. Apparently that folder had become corrupted and that caused
Windows Update files to fail to install.
