Hi,

Windows Millennium system
IE 6.0 SP1
All windows updates applied.
Well.... all updates except for one....

Problem:

Both Automatic Updates and Windows Update when run in IE keep coming up with
this update:

816093 Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine

But when I apply 816093, it says

This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the Microsoft VM

Well then, why does the update keep popping up?

So I said, OK, I'll get rid of the VM. So I removed the VM as per the
instructions in
http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Art...ows_38206.html.
Now there's no Java listed in Tools / Internet Options / Advanced

816093 still pops up.

I deleted the c:\program files\WindowsUpdate folder

816093 still pops up.

OK then. I tried to reinstall the VM from msjavx86.exe. Then I applied 816093.

Again, This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the Microsoft VM

Removed the VM again.

816093 still pops up.

Windows ME won't run V5 of Windows Update, which has the ignore option. When I
try to say "v5.windowsupdate....", it bops me back to V4.

So..... (deep breath)

HOW DO I GET RID OF 816093 FROM WINDOWS UPDATE????

Arrrrggghhhhh!!!!!

Thanks in advance.......

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the WINDOWS directory ( you may
need to enable " Show hidden files and folders " via Folder Options
in the Control Panel to see this file ). Look for Jview.exe, right
click it, choose Properties, click the Version tab. This is the last
version of MSJVM 5.0.3810.0 . If you have a lesser version then
that is why you are being prompted to install the update.
Strongly advise you to temporarily disable the antivirus program
prior to attempting this update.

If you need to obtain MSJVM 5.0.3810.0, then go to Windows Update,
click the Windows Catalog link in the left frame . To be able to
access the Windows Catalog link, please read :

Catalog
