Running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit w/Service Pack 2. Links referenced
below in the error message don't help. Anyone know how I can get this update
successfully installed? Appreciate the help. Thanks!

Received the following error message:

Windows Update Agent 7.4.7600.226
Installation date: ‎10/‎6/‎2009 10:56 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 8024D00F
Update type: Important

The Windows Update Agent enables your computer to search for and install
updates from an update service. The agent can automatically update itself as
needed to communicate with the update service when Windows searches for new
updates.

WU_E_SETUP_HANDLER_EXEC_FAILURE
Windows Update Agent could not be updated because the setup handler failed
during execution

Try manually downloading and installing.

I tried manually updating the Windows Update Agent as you suggest and it did
not work either.

Did you check the file versions after manually downloading and installing
the WU Agent file? Did they all change to the .226 version? Did you do a
Restart after installing? Do you have Admin rights?

Suggest you boot into Safe Mode, delete the C:\Windows\Software Distribution
folder, the Restart back into Normal mode. Open Computer, right-click the
C: drive, select Properties then Disk CleanUp. Check all the options then
run the cleaning process. Now again attempt to manually install the WU
Agent file. (be sure you download the one that matches your OS).

How do I check to see if the file versions have been updated/changed to the
..226 version? I ask this because when I manually installed the update, it
said it installed successfully. However, when I check the update history on
Windows Update, it still says that the update failed.

Check the version of one or all of the files mentioned in the article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104

BTW WU will now show a history of updates that have been installed manually.

I have the .226 version of the files. So the question is, why am I getting
the install failure error in the WU update history?
