Windows update and auto update

i turn on auto update to prompt me to download xp sp2
when it is ready for download. so i get an icon that ask
if i want to install xp sp2 and i click download. but
then i don't see the icon in the system tray. this was
yesterday. today i went on my computer and i see the
downloading updates for windows but it is at 0%. after
about 2 hours on the internet, i decided to go to the
windows update site to download xp sp2 manually. so now
i have started and i notice that the downloading updates
icon in the system tray is downloading the updates now
and it is currently at 33%.

what is going on here. is the auto and the manually
windows updating at the same time. is this suppose to
happen? Will there be a problem? What should i do?
