Hi!
I've been using Windows Update for a few years now, and for a few month
it doesn't work properly anymore.
Until a few weeks ago, I could go to
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...ult.aspx?ln=fr and note
the list of softwares I had to download, and download them separatly.
But now, it asks me to download and install MSI 3.1 Bêta and the Windows
Genuine Advantage Validation Tool before installing any other update
(and especially the updates of last Tuesday).
I managed to download and install MSI 3.1 Bêta using WU V4, but I can't
install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool.
Here is the error:
80240034
Furthermore, BITS (Service de transfert intelligent en arrière-plan ;
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs) don't want to start (error
0x80070005); apparently a problem of rights.
I'm using Windows XP Familial Edition SP2 (a genuine one ). I'm using
an administrator account.
If you have any idea, it would be greatly appreciated... :-)

I add the WindowsUpdate.log file (zipped) (joined).
See between 15:01:50 and 15:03:20 =>

All right, sorry, the first time I had this problem, even after two
weeks no one had the solution.
But it exists:
Open a command prompt window, and key in (or copy/paste):
rd /q /s "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloa*der"
hit ENTER

Now key in:
net start BITS
and hit ENTER
