What exactly were the listed vulnerabilities?
8007043B means:
"The executable program that this service is configured to run does not
implement the service. netsvcs registry value in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\S vchost registry key should
contain the service names that can be run in that service host. On XP and
Windows 2003, BITS should be in this value. If "BITS" is missing from that
value, then ERROR_SERVICE_NOT_IN_EXE error is seen when attempting to start
the service"
In other words, someone or something has tampered with the registry settings
that control the BITS service as part of Windows Update.
What version of Windows is this? What Service Pack level?
Can you use Regedit to copy out the value of the "netsvcs" value in registry
key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
For instance, in my XP SP2, it has the value:
6to4
AppMgmt
AudioSrv
Browser
CryptSvc
DMServer
DHCP
ERSvc
EventSystem
FastUserSwitchingCompatibility
HidServ
Ias
Iprip
Irmon
LanmanServer
LanmanWorkstation
Messenger
Netman
Nla
Ntmssvc
NWCWorkstation
Nwsapagent
Rasauto
Rasman
Remoteaccess
Schedule
Seclogon
SENS
Sharedaccess
SRService
Tapisrv
Themes
TrkWks
W32Time
WZCSVC
Wmi
WmdmPmSp
winmgmt
TermService
wuauserv
BITS
ShellHWDetection
WmdmPmSN
Ip6FwHlp
helpsvc
xmlprov
wscsvc
Try to identify what differences there are in the "netsvcs" value in your
PC.
