Windows Update - AOL vs. IE7

Ever since I downloaded IE7 I can no longer go to the Windows Update site
and get updates, however, if I do it thru AOL all is fine. This also
applies to Office Updates.

No error message, just installation failed and the suggested fixes do no
apply to me. OS=Windows XP SP2 Anything I try to download from
www.microsoft.com causes my cable modem to reset, this even goes for
templates. All other downloads from ANY other site work just fine.

I think it's rather amusing that IE won't download from it's parent site but
it's a pain to have to keep opening AOL to get what I want from there. Any
suggestions?

This implies that a download phase does work?
E.g. be more specific about what you see before that message.
Try using the Custom option to limit your updating to one update
or try using AU's download only option to separate the two phases
of updating. Etc.

That's not the site name used by WU or AU or the WU Catalog. ; }
Again, I think it would help if you would elaborate on what you are seeing
before the final symptom happens...

Ooh! (Serendipity.) There is now a Beta version of the WU Catalog...

http://test.catalog.update.microsoft...e/Install.aspx

FWIW I suspect that your symptoms have more to do with your connectivity
than with either IE or WU anyway. Cross-posting to XP Networking.

Good luck

There is no message, no nothing... my cable modem goes off-line and I get
the Installation Results with the failed (once my connection is back). I am
using the custom option and only selecting 1 item at a time.

Nothing to see, as I said above, I just see the lights go out on my modem.
And the point I was trying to make is anything I try to download while at
www.microsoft.com's site. Doesn't matter whether it's WU, OfficeU, Office
templates, articles, ANYTHING while I am there does not work unless I go
thru AOL then I can download anything I want.

The why only at Microsoft's site, why not at any other site I go to?

Thanks for the cross-post, might help!
