windows update applet failure

I tried to connect to windows update with my new XP SP1 computer. The system
asked me to install a program to check my system : I replied yes but, due to
a power failure, the installation process was aborted.

Now, when I try to connect to windows update , no system check starts:
simply nothing happens.

Can anybody help me ?

If this happened within the last 3 or 4 days use System Restore to
roll the system back to just before the power failure .
