Windows Update - Automatic Update Issue

MS windows update site says that I must amend a few things in order for it to
function - i have ran services.msc as instructed and gone into automatic
updates - it shows as disabled but every time i change it to auto and apply a
pop up appears saying this service is earmarked for deletion??? Any ideas???
