Greetings -

Running Windows Home Premium 32-Bit

I ran a system restore a couple of weeks ago to take care of an otherwise
disastrous state of affairs. I effectively restored to a back-up version of
my system from four months ago. All problems were immediately solved, and
after some housekeeping (reinstalling applications that were removed, etc.),
things looked normal.

Now, however, Windows Update can't check for update, error 80070002. I've
done everything that the solutions on the internet have said to do, the most
common solution of which seems to be to delete the files/folders within the
SoftwareDistribution and Download folders in C:\Windows. This does nothing.

Is there any fix to this issue? I'm happy to provide additional information
should it be needed.

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an
update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server

Unfortunately neither of the two suggestions have rectified the problem.
After disabling user accounts control to gain access needed for some of the
fixes suggested, Windows Update is still unable to check for updates.

Additionally, my attempt to download/install the update manually (KB941649)
was met with a a successful search and download of the package, but only to
be completed with a "The following updates were NOT installed" message. What
could be going on?

Hello,
Can you send me the cbs.log file?
c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log
Zip it up first, it can get rather large
Also send me the windowsupdate.log from the \windows\windowsupdate.log
Remove the "online" portion from my email address
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Spent 3 hours with India Microsoft support with this 8007002 error. No help
at all they took control of my pc with no luck. They are supposed to call
with an elevated support tech tomorrow. It all started when I had to replace
my motherboard and re-installed the OS. Took the first like 20 updates then
the next day there was 7 new ones. Same error regardless if you manually take
the updates or otherwise. I disabled everything that was running deleted the
Distribution files and the Download folder with no success. Looks to be a
major mistery maybe if Bill himself looked at it he could fix it/ LMAO!!!!
Think it has something to do with some hidden Vista script wrote that locks
the allowed updates down.
